Death Toll Reaches New High in Iraq

Last year a study conducted by US and Iraqi scientists showed an estimated six hundred and fifty thousand ‘excess’ civilian deaths in Iraq since 2003 according to the largest scientific analysis yet. This is 2.5% of the country’s entire population. More recent estimates have put the figure close to one million.

Two million Iraqis are displaced in their own country, while another two million are refugees abroad.

The Iraqi Red Crescent estimates that during the year up until March 2007, more than one hundred thousand families have been displaced with more than half of Iraq’s doctors and medical staff having fled the country.

Over the past six months, American coalition forces have died in Iraq at the highest rate since the beginning of the war. From October 2006 to March 2007, five hundred and thirty two US soldiers were killed the most during any six-month period of the war.

May God bring peace and blessings to this troubled nation.
